Seeing a dentist is important for your health, but it can be expensive. Currently, one-third of Canadians do not have dental insurance, and in 2018 more than one in five Canadians said they had gone without dental care because it was too expensive.
That's why our government is committed to providing dental care to uninsured Canadians with family incomes under $90,000 per year.
As of December 1, children under the age of 12 can receive dental coverage of up to $650 per year for two years. This is the first step in our government's proposed comprehensive national dental program.
This benefit will be a welcome relief for vulnerable families in the riding of Saint-Léonard-Saint-Michel.
To receive the benefit, eligible families will need to apply through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and certify the following
That their child does not have private coverage for dental care;
That they will have to pay for dental expenses from their relative for which they will use the benefit;
That they understand that they will be required to provide documentation for verification purposes for out-of-pocket expenses, such as receipts, if necessary.
Note that the Canada Dental Benefit will not affect other federal income-tested benefits such as the Canada Workers' Allowance, the Canada Child Benefit and the Goods and Services Tax Credit.
