Celebrating Italian Heritage Month

As an Italian Canadian and Member of Parliament for Saint-Léonard–Saint-Michel, I am proud to celebrate Italian Heritage Month throughout June. This month holds a special place in my heart as it allows us to honour the rich culture, traditions, and invaluable contributions of the Italian community across Canada. Italian heritage is a cornerstone of my identity and a vibrant thread woven into Canada’s multicultural mosaic. This month offers a unique opportunity for all of us to come together in pride and unity, celebrating the strength and resilience of Italian Canadians.

On Monday, in Montreal, I had the honour of celebrating the Festa della Repubblica, the Birth of the Italian Republic, alongside Italian Consul General Enrico Pavone at Casa d’Italia. The next morning in Ottawa, Parliament Hill became a symbol of our friendship as we raised the Italian Flag in celebration of the Italian Republic’s anniversary. It was inspiring to join my fellow Members of Parliament in this shared moment of recognition and respect.

Wednesday brought a more reflective moment with the grand opening of an exhibit commemorating the internment of Italian Canadians during the Second World War at the Canadian War Museum. This important exhibit serves as a solemn reminder of a difficult chapter in our history. It honours the perseverance and contributions of Italian Canadians, and I am proud to have been part of the government that formally apologised for this injustice.

Later that day, I was honoured to attend a dinner at the Italian Embassy with Ambassador H.E. Alessandro Cattaneo. I look forward to continuing to strengthen ties between Italy and Canada through enhanced cooperation, trade, and cultural exchange. Together, we can build a future rooted in shared values, economic growth, and lasting friendship.

Italian Heritage Month will continue throughout June, and I invite everyone to join in this vibrant celebration of culture, history, and community.
