Meeting our Emission Reduction Goals

Our government’s commitment to combatting climate change has been highlighted in the recent release of the 2024 National Inventory Report (NIR) by the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change. Tracking emissions from 1990 to 2022, the report showcases our nation's progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions while fostering economic growth.

The NIR reaffirms Canada's path towards meeting our emissions reduction targets for 2026, laying the groundwork for our 2030 objectives. Since 2005, we've seen a decline in emissions resulting in the lowest levels in 25 years.

Surpassing expectations, Canada has demonstrated a proactive approach to curbing emissions, defying predictions by esteemed entities like the Climate Change Institute.

Embracing innovative measures like the oil and gas emissions cap and investments in the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain, Canada is building a stronger economy and a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.
