Canada Investment Summit: A Successful Step Forward

Canada has what the world wants. We have abundant energy and critical minerals, a highly educated workforce, strong trade relationships and the fiscal capacity to invest in our future. The first Canada Investment Summit showed that investors around the world recognize the strength and potential of our country.
Hosted in Toronto over two days earlier this week, the Summit brought together investors from nearly 30 countries, representing more than $100 trillion in assets. Convened by Prime Minister Mark Carney in partnership with CPP Investments and PSP Investments, the event resulted in nearly $500 billion in new investment commitments to Canada.
These commitments will support projects and businesses across some of Canada’s most important sectors, including energy, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, defence, technology and infrastructure.
Canada’s leading pension funds, insurers and institutional investors committed nearly $100 billion in new capital to Canadian assets. Canada’s major banks also committed nearly $325 billion in new financing for Canadian businesses and infrastructure, while investment funds committed to mobilizing more than $14 billion to grow Canadian companies and strategic sectors.
The Summit also brought major announcements in artificial intelligence and infrastructure. Bell Canada, in partnership with the Government of Saskatchewan, announced a $52.5 billion investment to develop a 1.2 gigawatt AI infrastructure hub, expected to create more than 4,500 jobs.
A successful investment summit is ultimately about more than the numbers. It is about creating opportunities for Canadians, strengthening our businesses, supporting good jobs and building the infrastructure and industries we will need for the future.
The Canada Investment Summit was an important step forward. It demonstrated that Canada has the resources, talent and ambition to attract investment from around the world and build a stronger, more resilient economy here at home.
