Building a Stronger, More Independent Economy

Canada's economy is showing encouraging signs of momentum, with more Canadians finding work and businesses continuing to invest in our country's future.

According to Statistics Canada, more than 75,000 jobs were created in July, far exceeding expectations. The unemployment rate also fell to 6.4%, its lowest level in two years. This follows strong job gains in May and June, bringing total full-time employment gains to 193,000 over the past three months.

Since December 2024, Canada has added approximately 280,000 jobs, with most of July's gains among Canadians aged 25 to 54 and in the private sector. These numbers demonstrate the resilience of Canadian workers and businesses during a period of significant global economic uncertainty.

We are also seeing promising signs beyond employment. Preliminary data points to 3.4% economic growth in the second quarter, while Canada continues to attract investment and expand opportunities beyond the United States. Non-U.S. exports are on track to double over the next decade, and Canada is increasingly recognized as an attractive destination for infrastructure investment.

Prime Minister Mark Carney's plan is focused on building an economy that is stronger, more competitive, and more independent. Our government is taking action to diversify our trading relationships, accelerate major projects, attract investment, support Canadian businesses, and create good-paying jobs for Canadians.

Together with Canadian workers and businesses, we are building a stronger and more prosperous Canada, one that is ready to seize the opportunities ahead.
