Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the way we live, work, learn, and do business. As this technology continues to evolve, Canada has an opportunity not only to adapt but to lead. That is why Prime Minister Mark Carney recently launched AI for All, Canada's new national AI strategy, an ambitious plan that will help ensure AI is developed responsibly while creating opportunities for Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
Over the next five years, the strategy aims to generate an additional $200 billion in economic growth, create 250,000 new AI-related jobs, and dramatically increase the adoption of AI by businesses across Canada. It will also provide up to 90,000 AI-related jobs and work placements for young Canadians, helping prepare the next generation with the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital economy.
At the heart of the strategy is a new National AI Literacy Initiative, offering free AI training and learning opportunities so Canadians of all ages can confidently use new technologies. Students, workers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses will have access to new tools, training, and resources to help them harness AI to increase productivity, improve services, and remain competitive.
The strategy also recognizes that innovation must be built on trust. It includes measures to strengthen privacy protections, combat AI-enabled online harms such as deepfakes, safeguard democratic institutions, and ensure Canadians can embrace AI with confidence.
To support Canada's long-term competitiveness, the government will invest in world-class computing infrastructure, including a new public AI supercomputer, expand support for Canadian researchers and entrepreneurs, and help innovative companies commercialize their ideas and compete globally while keeping jobs and intellectual property here at home.
Canada is already recognized as a global leader in artificial intelligence research. With AI for All, we are taking the next step by ensuring that the benefits of AI are shared by everyone. By investing in people, strengthening Canadian businesses, protecting our values, and fostering innovation, our government is building a stronger economy. We are creating new opportunities for future generations, and positioning Canada to lead in one of the defining moments of the 21st century.
