One of the highlights of my year took place today as I had the pleasure of hosting my 3rd Annual Italian Heritage Month Celebration and flag raising in Saint-Léonard.
On a beautiful sunny day, more than 120 residents, community leaders, and friends gathered in front of the Leonardo Da Vinci Centre to celebrate the rich heritage, traditions, and contributions of Italian Canadians.
When I first organized this event in 2024, I promised that it would become an annual tradition and am proud to say that promise has become a reality. This celebration has quickly become one of my favourite events on the calendar and seeing so many members of our community come together filled me with tremendous pride and gratitude.
I was pleased to welcome several distinguished guests, including Italy’s Consul General, Dr. Enrico Pavone, parliamentary, provincial, and municipal colleagues, as well as many community leaders whose presence reflected the strength and vitality of our Italian Canadian community.
This year’s celebration was particularly meaningful as it took place just days after Festa della Repubblica celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Republic. It was in that historic 1946 vote that established democracy in Italy and marked the first time women were granted the right to vote in a national election.
The morning was made even more special by outstanding musical performances from Clotilde Moretti, Ron Di Lauro, and John Roney as well as the Parc Delorme Folklore Dance Group who showcased the incredible talent found within our community.
As we continue celebrating Italian Heritage Month throughout June, we honour our roots, celebrate our accomplishments, and look confidently toward the future. As a proud Italian, I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this heritage alongside the community that has shaped so much of who I am.
Buona Festa della Repubblica and Happy Italian Heritage Month!
