Our government marked a major milestone for the country’s energy sector this week as the Hon. Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, alongside Provincial, International and Indigenous leadership, announced a landmark agreement between Ksi Lisims LNG and Germany’s SEFE. The agreement will see Germany purchase one million tonnes of low-carbon Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually for up to 20 years, making this the first long-term supply agreement between a Canadian LNG producer and a European buyer.
The announcement represents a major step forward for Canada’s growing role as a reliable global energy supplier and highlights the country’s ability to deliver cleaner energy solutions while strengthening economic growth and trade diversification. Ksi Lisims LNG, proposed for the northern coast of British Columbia, would become Canada’s second-largest LNG export terminal and once operational is expected to export up to 12 million tonnes of LNG annually.
The project received joint federal-provincial environmental approval in September 2025 under our new government’s “One Project, One Review” model, demonstrating an accelerated and coordinated approach to responsible resource development. Two months later in November 2025, Ksi Lisims was referred to the federal Major Projects Office. Our government’s goal is to advance nation-building projects faster to help drive our economy, diversify our industries and trade, support clean growth and Indigenous partnerships, and create high-paying careers for generations to come.
This agreement is another important step toward a final decision for the project, which is expected to attract more than $30 billion in investments and generate thousands of jobs during construction and operation. The project will also create significant supply chain opportunities and contribute more than $15 billion to Canada’s GDP.
Once fully electrified, Ksi Lisims LNG is expected to become one of the world’s lowest-emission LNG operations, producing emissions approximately 94% below the global average. By securing new international partnerships and advancing major nation-building projects, Canada’s new government continues to strengthen economic security, diversify exports, and support long-term prosperity for communities across the country.
