Investing in Women and Gender Equality

Canada’s new government is continuing to make historic investments to advance equality, improve safety, and create new opportunities for women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ communities across the country. Our government is investing $660.5 million over five years through the Department for Women and Gender Equality to ensure meaningful and lasting progress toward a more inclusive Canada.

These investments reflect a simple belief: when women succeed, we all succeed. Supporting women’s economic participation, leadership, and safety strengthens families, communities, and our economy.

A major portion of this funding, $382.5 million over five years, will go toward revitalizing the Women’s Program, with ongoing annual support to continue advancing equality in Canada. This includes investments to improve women’s and girls’ economic security and expand leadership opportunities through initiatives such as the Women’s Economic and Leadership Opportunities Fund.

We are also providing $54.6 million over five years to strengthen support for 2SLGBTQI+ communities through the Community Capacity Fund. This funding will help organizations continue their important work supporting inclusion, advocacy, and community services. It also includes dedicated funding to improve Pride event security and ensure celebrations remain safe and welcoming spaces for everyone.

In addition, our government is investing $223.4 million over five years to strengthen federal action against gender-based violence. This funding will support prevention efforts, survivor services, and assistance for populations disproportionately affected by violence, including Indigenous women and underserved communities.

These investments demonstrate our government’s commitment to building a safer, fairer, and more equitable Canada where everyone can succeed and reach their full potential.
