As the world economy rapidly evolves, our government remains focused on building a stronger and more resilient Canada by attracting investment, creating jobs, and supporting industries that drive long-term growth. Canada’s aerospace industry continues to reach new heights, reinforcing our country’s position as a global leader in innovation, manufacturing, and skilled labour.
This week, Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed a historic agreement between Airbus and AirAsia for the purchase of 150 Airbus A220-300 aircraft — the largest order ever for a Canadian-designed and manufactured aircraft. Every plane will be assembled at Airbus Canada’s facility in Mirabel, representing a major boost for Québec’s world-class aerospace sector and supporting thousands of high-quality Canadian jobs.
From engineers and electricians to welders, technicians, and skilled trades workers, this landmark agreement will create economic opportunities across the country while showcasing Canadian expertise on the global stage. The A220 program alone already supports more than 4,600 workers in Mirabel and thousands more throughout Canada’s aerospace supply chain.
Designed and developed by Canadian workers, the Airbus A220-300 represents the future of aviation technology. Its advanced design offers greater fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and lower noise levels, helping position Canada at the forefront of sustainable aerospace innovation.
This announcement builds on our government’s broader economic strategy to strengthen trade partnerships, attract investment, and grow Canadian industries. Over the past year alone, Canada has secured nearly $100 billion in foreign investment commitments, the highest level in two decades, and expanded economic partnerships across Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.
As global demand for Canadian innovation continues to grow, our government will keep investing in Canadian workers, Canadian industries, and Canadian-made success stories that build a stronger economy for everyone.
