Prime Minister Carney Launches the Build Communities Strong Fund

Our government is turning Budget 2025’s promise into action with the launch of the Build Communities Strong Fund. Over the next decade, $51 billion will be invested to strengthen the hospitals, schools, roads, bridges, and water systems that support communities across Canada.

This week the Prime Minister turned a key promise of Budget 2025 into reality with the official launch of the Build Communities Strong Fund. The first thirteen projects across Canada under the Fund were announced, which will create thousands of good, well-paying jobs and stimulate local economies. Additional projects will be announced in the following months and years.

The Fund will be a force multiplier in infrastructure, with funding matched by nearly $17 billion from provinces, and additional billions leveraged through municipal and territorial partnerships as well as private capital. Combined with provincial matching, projects through the Fund will support an average of 42,000 jobs per year, from engineering to skilled trades. The Fund is expected to boost Canada’s GDP by $95 billion over the next decade, with approximately $12 billion in infrastructure investments each year for the next eight years, nearly double the previous eight years.

The Build Communities Strong Fund will deliver funding through three streams: a provincial and territorial stream ($17.2 billion), a direct delivery stream ($6 billion), and a community stream ($27.8 billion). In Quebec, the Fund will invest $3.6 billion over 10 years in critical infrastructure, including housing-enabling projects, health facilities, and post-secondary education upgrades.

Along with our new Buy Canadian Policy, this Fund ensures more public dollars are reinvested locally, creating Canadian careers and supporting Canadian industries. By working with provinces and territories, our government is taking decisive action to grow a more resilient economy, create jobs, and strengthen communities. Together, we are building Canada Strong.
