The 2026 theme for International Women’s Day, “Give to Gain,” calls on us to embrace a mindset grounded in generosity, collaboration, and mutual support. When individuals, organizations, and communities give intentionally, opportunities expand and stronger foundations are built for women everywhere.
Each year, this day provides a meaningful opportunity to come together, reconnect, and celebrate the extraordinary women who strengthen our communities. It reminds us that progress is never achieved alone; it is built by many voices and many hands working side by side. Advancing gender equality, requires more than words. It demands sustained investment, strong partnerships, and a clear commitment.
This year, Minister of Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) Rechie Valdez announced a $15.5 million investment through WAGE to strengthen national women’s organizations and support their long-term sustainability. This funding is designed to enhance organizational capacity, foster collaboration, and ensure the sector is equipped to advance opportunity, safety, and rights for women and girls across Canada.
The evidence is clear: when women succeed, Canada succeeds. Increasing women’s participation in the economy could add up to $150 billion to our GDP, driving growth, innovation, and productivity. Gender equality is not only a social imperative; it is one of the smartest economic decisions a country can make.
Looking ahead, Budget 2025 proposes a historic $500 million to further advance and strengthen gender equality nationwide. Our government will continue to champion women and gender equality, working to build a resilient Canada where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
When we choose to give, to mentor, to invest, to uplift, and to stand together, we all gain. We gain stronger communities, a more dynamic economy, and a country that reflects the full talent and potential of its people. We will build a more positive future through an unwavering belief in the power of women to shape a better Canada for generations to come.
Happy International Women’s Day!
