Canada and Quebec are taking an important step forward in addressing the housing crisis and building stronger, more resilient communities. Driven by a shared commitment to increase the housing supply and support long-term growth, the two governments have signed a new memorandum of understanding to guide the harmonized deployment of Build Canada Homes in Quebec. This partnership reflects our collective determination to make the generational investments in housing and infrastructure that Canadians need.
Through a new joint Collaboration Table, both governments will work together to fund affordable housing projects aligned with shared priorities, streamline and speed up approval processes, and strengthen coordination between all levels of government and community partners. This will allow us to move projects forward faster and more efficiently, benefiting families and communities across the province.
Recognizing that building more homes requires strong infrastructure, Canada and Quebec have also signed an agreement on the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund. Nearly $1 billion in federal investments will now be available to modernize essential infrastructure including drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems. These investments will help municipalities support new residential construction and manage growth sustainably.
This integrated and pragmatic approach will boost housing supply, fuel municipal development and enhance economic vitality across Quebec. It also reaffirms a shared commitment to responding to the housing crisis with concrete solutions that improve access to affordable and quality homes.
Together, through Build Canada Homes, the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund and ongoing programs, we are building Canada strong, creating vibrant and sustainable communities and ensuring a better future for generations to come.
