I was pleased to join community leaders and guests today to mark the start of construction on the new covered soccer field at Parc Hébert in Saint-Léonard. Infrastructure is the foundation of healthy, prosperous communities. It connects people to where they live, work, and study, and helps create neighbourhoods where families can put down roots, stay active, and participate fully in community life.
Durable, modern infrastructure is especially important. When we invest in projects built to last, we reduce long-term costs, improve resilience, and ensure communities can rely on these spaces for generations. Strong infrastructure also supports economic growth.
That is why the federal government has made investing in infrastructure and in Canadians a core priority. Today’s announcement marks an important milestone for Saint-Léonard–Saint-Michel. The new covered soccer field will feature a synthetic playing surface and a permanent inflatable dome, allowing year-round use and replacing the temporary dome currently on site. The Government of Canada is proud to invest $1,399,665 in this durable project, which will enhance quality of life and strengthen the vitality of the community.
Access to safe, welcoming recreational spaces brings people together. Local sports facilities are where friendships are formed, confidence is built, and healthy habits begin. I know this new field will play that same role for young people and families in Saint-Léonard. This investment will provide residents with more opportunities to stay active, socialize, and engage in community life, benefiting youth, families, and athletes of all ages.
By building the right infrastructure today, we are investing directly in Canadians and laying the foundation for a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future here in Saint-Léonard–Saint-Michel and across the country. Together, we are building Canada Strong.
