The Government of Canada has announced an important increase in the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) for the 2025–26 benefit year, providing families with greater financial support to help cover the costs of raising children. The Honourable Anna Gainey, Secretary of State (Children and Youth), confirmed that eligible families can now receive up to $7,997 per child under age 6, and up to $6,748 per child aged 6 through 17.
The CCB is a tax-free monthly payment designed to assist low- and middle-income families with the everyday expenses of raising children, such as groceries, clothing, and childcare. The amount a family receives depends on factors like the number and age of children and the family’s prior year income.
For example, a family with two children aged 5 and 9, and an adjusted net income of $65,000, will receive just over $11,000 in 2025–26 — more than $500 more than the previous year. Since 2018, the CCB has been indexed to inflation, ensuring the benefit keeps pace with rising living costs.
The Canada Child Benefit continues to be a crucial source of support for over 3.5 million Canadian families and 6 million children nationwide. Our government is also investing in programs like the National School Food Program and the Canadian Dental Care Plan, further easing financial pressures on families. Together, these initiatives demonstrate our commitment to supporting families and ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
