Parc Frédéric-Back: From Quarry to Urban Oasis

Once a limestone quarry and landfill, Parc Frédéric-Back in Saint-Michel has transformed into one of North America's most ambitious environmental rehabilitation projects. Spanning 153 hectares, almost the size of Mont Royal, this vibrant park is more than just green space, it’s a dynamic hub where culture, education, sports, and relaxation blend seamlessly.

Located in the heart of Saint-Léonard–Saint-Michel, Parc Frédéric-Back offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and discover the rich biodiversity thriving in an urban setting. We are so fortunate to have such an amazing natural resource right here at home.

To make outdoor adventures even easier, the park offers free bike and scooter rentals at the Tohu kiosk—available every Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., no reservation needed. Whether you want to ride, relax, or explore, Parc Frédéric-Back invites everyone to enjoy the summer and reconnect with nature in this remarkable urban oasis.
