His Majesty King Charles III, King of Canada delivers the Speech from the Throne
May 30, 2025

This week, His Majesty King Charles III opened the 45th Parliament of Canada, delivering our government’s Speech from the Throne laying out our agenda for the first session. This historic occasion marked only the third time a reigning monarch has delivered the speech in Canada — a role traditionally carried out by the Governor General, the Crown’s representative.

This year’s Throne Speech focused on building a stronger, more united Canada. At this pivotal moment in our nation’s history, our Liberal government is setting out a clear and ambitious course — one rooted in progress, inclusion, and resilience. We are committed to ensuring that no Canadian is left behind as we work together to shape a more prosperous and equitable future.

As the 45th Parliament begins, our Liberal government will remain focused on delivering real results and advancing key priorities quickly.  We have introduced legislation for a middle-class tax cut saving two-income families up to $840 a year. We will double the rate of housing construction and create Build Canada Homes, a new government agency that will act as a developer for affordable housing. At the same time, our government has promised to introduce legislation to remove all remaining federal barriers to internal trade and labour mobility by Canada Day

Lastly, I am deeply grateful to the people of Saint-Léonard–Saint-Michel for once again placing their trust in me as their Member of Parliament. It is an honour to serve our vibrant community for a third consecutive term, and I will continue to fight for you as we keep working to build an even stronger Canada.
