In his first days as Prime Minister, Mark Carney has wasted no time setting a decisive course for our government—one rooted in strengthening Canada’s global partnerships, economic resilience, and Arctic sovereignty. Following high-level meetings in Paris and London, Carney made a significant domestic stop in Iqaluit, where he announced major investments in northern security and Indigenous reconciliation.

His first international visit took him to Paris, where he met with President Emmanuel Macron to discuss economic cooperation, climate action, and transatlantic security. In London, his meeting with His Majesty The King and Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed Canada’s close ties with the UK, with discussions centering on trade, financial stability, and global security. At a time of economic and geopolitical uncertainty, Carney’s experience on the world stage proved instrumental in reinforcing Canada’s standing among its allies.

Back on home soil, Carney underscored his government’s commitment to Arctic security, alongside Defence Minister Bill Blair and Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Jennie Carignan. He pledged to expand the Canadian Armed Forces' presence in the North and announced a strategic partnership with Australia to develop an advanced over-the-horizon radar system—an essential step in protecting Canadian airspace from emerging threats.

Carney has also taken a firm stance against American economic pressure, vowing to defend Canada from unjustified U.S. trade actions. As Washington escalates tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, he has expanded retaliatory measures and reaffirmed his commitment to diversifying trade partnerships beyond North America. His meeting with Canada's premiers will focus on forging a unified economic strategy, strengthening key industries, and ensuring Canada’s economic resilience in the face of external threats.

Moreover, Carney’s government has canceled the carbon tax, recognizing that it is no longer effective. The tax had become too divisive, undermining the unity Canada needs during this critical time.
