Mark Carney Elected Leader of the Liberal Party and Sworn in as Prime Minister
March 14, 2025

On Sunday, following a two-month leadership race, over 150,000 Canadians cast their votes to select the next Leader of the Liberal Party. The election of Mark Carney with 86% percent marks the beginning of a new chapter for our country. I am eager to continue the work of the Liberal Party and our government under Mark’s leadership, and to build upon the progress we've made together.

I am immensely proud to see Mark Carney be sworn in as Prime Minister along with our new cabinet today. Mark brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, having served as Chairman of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England. A lifelong Liberal, Mark’s exceptional leadership has been recognized across partisan political lines.

Throughout his career, Mark has successfully navigated crises, including the 2008 global financial meltdown and the complexities of Brexit in Europe. In these serious times, Mark’s proven track record of tackling financial challenges and his global perspective make him exceptionally well-suited to represent Canada on the world stage during this period of uncertainty.

As we navigate a potentially challenging relationship with President Trump, Mark’s vast experience and expertise position him as the ideal Prime Minister to safeguard Canada’s interests in this unpredictable political landscape. Under Mark's leadership, our government will continue to champion policies that foster economic growth, social equity, and international collaboration.

Canadians are a pragmatic and serious people, and they want their political leaders to reflect these values. They want leaders like Mark—those who act with maturity, work tirelessly in the best interests of all Canadians, including the most vulnerable, and strive to build a stronger, more united nation rather than tear it apart.

Together with Prime Minister Mark Carney we are ready to face the challenges ahead and work towards a brighter, more prosperous future for all Canadians.
