Expansion of the Canadian Dental Care Plan
July 11, 2024

Oral health is essential for Canadians’ well-being.

That’s why our Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is so important. It is one of the largest social programs in Canadian history and, once fully implemented, will provide dental care for up to 9 million eligible Canadians.  It is now open to Canadians over 65 years and under 18 years old, as well as to adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate so even more families will be able to benefit! Now that applications for these two new groups of Canadians are open, more than 1.2 million additional people will be able to access dental care. This means that approximately 938,000 children and close to 183,000 adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate will have more affordable access to the oral health care that they need.

We are also taking action to make it easier for oral health providers, including dentists, dental hygienists, denturists or dental specialists, to treat patients and submit CDCP claims. Now, eligible providers will be able to treat CDCP patients, whether or not they formally sign up as a CDCP participating provider.

It was a pleasure to join my colleagues, Ministers Pablo Rodriguez and Soraya Martinez Ferrada, at M. Pierre Jussaume’s clinic to discuss the program and hear how big of a positive change it is making in the lives of their patients and their community.

As a Quebecer, I am especially proud of this program – with one of the highest rates of participation across the country, we know that it is doing a lot of good already.
