Making Life More Affordable for Canadians
September 29, 2023

Our government is continuing to work to make life more affordable for Canadians.

To counter high housing prices, our government announced that we will be removing GST on the construction of new rental apartment buildings, as well as encouraging provincial governments to do the same.

This rebate will be available to all new construction beginning before the end of 2030, and to be completed before the end of 2035.

This plan looks to ensure that apartment buildings are built in both small towns and big cities, as well as along transit lines. The reduced cost of construction will allow for more rental units at a price that ordinary families, workers, students, and seniors will be able to afford.

Alongside housing affordability, our government is committed to ensuring the stabilization of grocery prices. Major grocery chains met with ministers and have been urged to come up with a plan to stabilize prices by Thanksgiving.

As long as inflation and the cost of living impacts Canadians, our government is committed to taking steps to build a more affordable economy that works for everyone.
