Clean energy for the green transition
August 10, 2023

Canadians know that electricity will play a key role in the energy transition. From cars to heat pumps, we are going to need large amounts of clean energy to keep up with the growing demand.

That’s why our government and the Minister for Natural Resources, the Honorable Jonathan Wilkinson, are very proud to have published Powering Canada Forward: Building a Clean, Affordable and Reliable Electricity System for Every Region of Canada.

This policy paper outlines the various commitments and strategic actions our government will undertake to ensure that the country’s energy needs are met in a sustainable and clean way. This will also provide the opportunity to create good jobs, attract new investment, and strengthen energy security.

These measures include, among other things, the publication of Canada's first-ever clean electricity strategy to be attained by 2024.

The energy transition requires considerable effort from all players in our economy, and our strategy is an important  step that demonstrates our government's serious and wholehearted commitment to ensuring a clean and prosperous future for Canadians.
