
The Canadian government recently introduced the Canada Housing Benefit. This assistance is intended to help Canadians who need it the most to help them pay their rent by offering them a $500 allowance.
Here are the criteria to be met in order to be eligible for this aid*:
- Be 15 years old on December 1, 2022
- Live in Canada and pay taxes there
- Have an adjusted net income for the year 2021
- $35,000 or less in the case of families (including people who are married and living common-law);
- $20,000 or less for a person living alone;
- Having paid rent:
- In 2022 for your main accommodation
- That this rent was equal to 30% or more of the readjusted family net income mentioned above
- For example, a family that had an adjusted net family income of $35,000 in 2021 must have paid at least $10,500 in rent for the year 2022 (i.e. a monthly rent of $875 per month)
The application portal will remain open until March 31, 2023.
